These days, natural medicine is becoming steadily more popular. There are various reasons for this, from simple affordability to the lack of negative side effects. From natural cosmetic methods to miraculous painkillers, home remedies are now booming in popularity. You may be put off by stories about people using crystals to stave off malaria. You might also have heard of people telling patients they’re depressed because their “auras” are imbalanced. Don’t worry, there won’t be any similar mumbo jumbo in this piece. Here, I’ve listed some proven, effective home remedies. These will soothe all kinds of ailments, and possibly save you a small fortune on pharmaceuticals!

Every now and then, various conditions can lead to us feeling nauseous. This is a distinctly unpleasant feeling, but luckily there’s a natural, inexpensive way around it. For this, all you have to do is infuse ground ginger with boiling water, let the mixture cool, then pour it into an ice cube tray. Once frozen, you’ll have a fantastic remedy waiting for you whenever you need it. When your nausea strikes, take out the cubes, then crush them in a plastic bag into smaller chips. Suck these chips throughout your day. This will give you an ongoing, soothing drip which will make the nausea gently fade. If you’re an expectant mother, you’ll be pleased to know that this is especially effective during pregnancy. The nausea some people feel after undergoing surgery is also easily helped through this method.

Next, we have a brilliant treatment for a sore throat. This may come with the price of bad breath, however! Simply press six fresh garlic cloves, and mix it in a glass of warm water, infusing it as much as possible. This isn’t an instantaneous miracle cure. However, repeating this process twice a day for a while will see the pain healing much faster than it usually would. These remedies may affect different people in different ways. If you find it works, you could end up saving a lot of money by cutting out all of those extortionately priced cough sweets. The fresh juice from the cloves has been shown to have potent antimicrobial properties. What, you don’t know what that means? Simply put, the juice will react against the bacteria which causes throat pain. The warm water also helps to heal any inflamed throat tissue.

You’ll be overjoyed to finally find a health article that tells you to eat chocolate! Well, dark chocolate anyway. Dark chocolate contains theobromine. This compound has been shown to be even more effective than codeine at soothing stubborn coughs. Unlike codeine, however, you won’t have to deal with the unpleasant side effects such as constipation or drowsiness. What if you’re one of those evil, twisted souls who doesn’t like chocolate? Well, there are a variety of essential oils which are also effective against coughs. Be careful here, as using the wrong oil for the wrong person can be totally ineffective. The best product and method all depends on the person’s age and other health factors. Click here to see a full guide on these oils.

There are few symptoms I hate more than a fever. You spend hours shivering in bed, willing sleep to come. When you finally do drop off, you have horrible, confusing, often repeating dreams. Again, there’s a highly effective natural remedy for this. Linden flower tea works against a fever in two different ways. First, it stimulates the hypothalamus, which is the portion in your brain that regulates temperature. This is one of the areas a fever effects, leading to the unpleasant fluctuation in heat we’re all unfortunately familiar with. It also works to dilate your blood vessels, allowing you to sweat more and speed up your body’s natural recovery process. All you need to do to make this remedy is mix a tablespoon of the ground flower in a cup of hot water. This kind of tea isn’t exactly to everyone’s tastes, so go ahead and add sugar if you like. Drink three or four cups of this a day, keeping up this pace until the fever subsides.

Here’s a cure for something that isn’t quite an illness, but almost everyone would prefer to live without it! If you suffer from flatulence (stop giggling) then there’s a simple, natural and proven treatment. Get your hands on some enteric-coated peppermint capsules, and take three of these daily. Peppermint is great at killing the bacteria which causes bloating. It also works to relax the gastrointestinal muscles, which will lead to a much smoother digestion. The enteric capsule around the peppermint means that it won’t open in the stomach, which is one of the common causes of heartburn. With this kind of casing, the peppermint will release in the gastrointestinal tract. This is where it can do the most help for problems with flatulence.

Here’s another cure for a slightly embarrassing problem. Bad breath can be treated fairly effectively using a small cup of lemon juice. Yes, it takes a bit of willpower to gargle pure lemon juice. However, the acidic properties in it are incredibly effective at killing the odour-causing bacteria on the teeth and tongue. Once you’ve muscled past that, have some unsweetened yoghurt. These contain lactobacillus bacteria. These microbes combat and replace the smelly bacteria, leaving your breath fresh. This remedy works almost instantaneously, and can provide you with pleasant breath for at least twelve hours. Having said that, it’s a little less convenient to carry around than breath mints!

So there you have a few of the most effective and affordable home remedies. Whether you’re aiming for a healthier lifestyle, or just want to go easier on your wallet, these will give you an easy solution. If these cures were all new to you, then remember you’re only at the tip of the iceberg. There are countless natural medicines which can be acquired easily. Many of them are much more effective than their synthesised counterparts! As great as home remedies can be, always apply common sense. Use these when symptoms arise, but always see a doctor when the situation demands it.
