I have a prism style binoculars from a recognizable name company, which is optically superior (and such are higher cost, less portable, and heavier). This simpler pair might be better judged against something like "opera glasses". In that comparison, these are better in having each eye separately focused, and having superior lenses (less expected distortion and better light gathering and transmission), and most notably, higher power magnification.

These come with a fitted case/pouch, though no lens caps (and none to lose). They can accommodate a range of left-to-right eye spacing, which I find a critical setting to best get the image to my eyes, considering the rather narrow field-of-view. Mostly, I like that these are "pocket-able", and are priced as a good value.

These are very compact binoculars. Folded up they fit in a case only two by two-and-a-half by four inches. I weighed them at just a hair over six ounces.

Overall I judged the mechanics to be adequate. Thankfully there is a metal frame. The closest I could get them to focus was about eighteen feet—not bad. My pair consistently made a faint noise when adjusting the focus. There is a separate diopter adjustment for the right eye—it does not lock into place, so it may have to be readjusted frequently. It works, however, and I was glad to see this crucial feature. Unfortunately there are only marginal “eyecups” to block peripheral light, so occasionally I would pick up reflections bouncing off the back lens.

Optically they are not bad for such a low cost pair of binoculars. Not bad at all. The best focus and definition is found in the center of the field of view, and it deteriorates rapidly toward the edges. They fared poorly for low light observation, which I expected due to their small objective lenses limiting light gathering. But they were possible to use indoors in normal to slightly dim room lighting.

They are marked and sold as being “12 x 30.” Normally that would mean twelve power with a thirty millimeter objective (front) lens. I measured these lenses at just twenty two to twenty three millimeters, or a bit less than an inch. The only way I could get anything near thirty millimeters was to measure the outside of the tube, not the lenses (just over 29 mm).

I tried these binoculars at night watching a full moon. Details on the lunar surface were visible and reasonably clear. But given the light weight, coupled with what is stated as a twelve power magnification (I have no way of measuring this), it was hard to keep them from being shaky.

I also tried them during the day, looking at my neighbor’s wooden house trim. Very impressive. I could clearly make out not just the nails, but the cracking in the paint. Nice, and it shows how binoculars with small lenses perform at their best in bright light.

These are not the sort of binoculars you would want to look through for long stretches of time, because eye fatigue quickly sets in. But they are fun for casual use, and they are good enough to help you pick out distant details. They might be a good choice for older kids to mess around with, as they are functional and budget friendly. Very budget friendly.

I have a second home, back in the woods of Virginia. It is surrounded by trees, and lots of nature. And, I mean lots! There is always something interesting running, crawling, or flying, whether it is a cardinal, bluejay, squirrel, chipmunk, buzzard, deer, or the occasional bear. These POLDR binoculars have definitely come in handy. They are compact, lightweight, and portable. They are a powerful 12x30, and have a large 18 mm eyepiece, with better optics, for more clear HD vision. There is a center wheel adjustment, and comes with a neck strap, and carry case. I have gotten tons of use, from these, and look forward to much more.

Tiny binoculars with a BIG bang to buck ratio

When I first saw the box, I was thinking that these binoculars were going to be a junky toy. Boy was I wrong! I have tested a bunch of binoculars that I might take with me to an upcoming sporting event, and these are by far my favorites, with a tiny form factor that loses very little in terms of performance.

The other pairs that I'm comparing these to are in the 12x25 and 12x42 range, with significantly bigger glass (and far heavier bodies), and I'm honestly not seeing that much of a difference in terms of image quality. These are almost pocket-sized, yet do a great job of bringing you into the action.

My only minor complaint would be the little string that acts as a neck strap, but that's a minor issue.

I have no problem recommending these to anyone looking to get a better look a sporting events, concerts, birds or whatever without being bogged down with a bunch of weight that doesn't give you any better performance.
